Social Media: Revolution, or just a Fad?

Everyone is talking about social media.  However, with the rising and inevitable falling of so many “greats” like TheHub, MySpace, and others, it makes us wonder, “Is social media an actual revolution, or just another fad that’s bound to pass in time?”  To find out, we turned to the research.  When it comes to the history of media’s ability to reach people, social media does seem to have quite the corner on the market.  To reach 50 million users, it took 38 years for the Radio, 13 years for TV, and 4 years for the Internet.  How effective can this social media thing really be?  Well, Facebook reached 200 million users in less than a year.  Erik Qualman, media researcher and author of Socialnomics, writes, “We don’t have a choice on whether we DO social media, the question is how well we DO it.”

Social media, truly a revolution or just a fad?  Watch the video below and decide for yourself.
