We’ve all felt the effects of COVID-19 this year, and nonprofits are no different.
Not only are the end constituents that nonprofits serve in many cases being personally impacted, but the way in which nonprofits serve those individuals and communities has also shifted. Fundraising practices, cycles, and environments have also seen changes this year.
Many nonprofits are realizing that fundraising still needs to happen, but virtually. And one of the unexpected benefits of this is the lower overhead costs associated with such an approach. With generosity being a key ingredient toward nonprofit success and impact, “waiting it out” when it comes to the global pandemic, is in most cases simply not an option.
According to this latest research and resource created by Classy, “A virtual event can also create new opportunities to engage participants who previously would not have been able to attend due to financial or geographical limitations. While we’re seeing an increased focus on virtual events and virtual fundraising as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, virtual fundraising is not new.”
Many organizations have been evolving toward virtual and remote experiences in the past several years, but COVID seems to have fast-tracked and expedited this transition. Whereas before a virtual event may have been a smaller supplement to a large annual in-person event, it is now itself the main event.
